Staith House

I eat here quite often as it's always utterly reliable for serving excellent dishes. Not the cheapest of places but worth every penny. This time, I tried the venison casserole and it was absolutely superb.

We had a lovely night - the food was great and the staff are pleasant and helpful. The treacle bread and butter was something else

We made a special trip here and we were not disappointed. Great ingredients imaginatively cooked, we will be back, especially as the bar area allowed us to bring our dog!

Wonderful lunch with seasonal ingredients. Small but nicely chosen wine list - something for everyone including gluten free choices.

Some of the best food I’ve ever had at an incredibly reasonable price. Seriously, there is no reason not to go to this restaurant.

Staith House has become one of our favourite places to eat. The service is always excellent and the menu changes frequently enough to make repeat visits worthwhile. We especially appreciate the varied vegetarian options and the flexibility to double up on starters for mains. Once seated, there is never a rush to vacate the table.

On a previous visit we thought the standard of the food was excellent.
Unfortunately on this occasion the quality was poor .
The presentation of the soup starter was unusual and not of a standard I expected.
The fish (COD) that we all had was tasteless and didn’t come close to what our local fish and chip shop serve- and what we return for—good tasting fresh quality fish and chips.
The portions were far to large resulting in food waste surely disappointing for a Chef to see?

I love it here. However I think the table we were allocated should not be for bookings. We were literally right next to the door. Every time the door opens there is a blast of cold air.

Between 3 of us we had the bacon belly, rarebit and fish & chips. First 2 dishes needed a carb element to fill the dish up as they both looked under portioned compared to the fish & chips and we were left wanting a bit more at the end. With the bacon there were 3 dollops of sauce left on the plate at the end which is a bit much and not needed to that extent. Trying to combine fine dining and gastro didn't quite work due to portion sizes and perceived value for money at lunchtime.
Treacle sponge was excellent.
Cod cheeks and oysters were nice
