Atmosphere was great, food was tasty, however, portions were quite small for the price. Also, a small side of white rice - which should have come with curry entrees - is 3.5 pounds... And desserts were expensive at 7.5 pounds
Service was superb.
We asked for the curry to come without chicken and only seafood as we do not eat meat, it came full of chicken! The food was luke warm, not hot and was cold while we ate it. The food was flavorful and would have been great if not for these two problems. White
Wine selection by the glass did not include dryer wines .
Very good early evening dining
Beautiful restaurant situated within the hotel. The servers were excellent and food delicious.
Only complaint? I only have one mouth. Will definitely be back soon.
We had to cancel our reservation, which we did. So we did not eat at Umami.
We arrived and were rudely ignored for about 10 minutes! This also happened to the diners behind us, we all agreed it was not a good first impression.
Our starters were average and it took ages for our mains to arrive..... which were basic to say the least. The menu is not extensive but the wait implies the food is being made freshly but that is not reflected in the taste.
Overall not worth the money spent, my husband sent his main back as it tasted like then had thrown curry powder on top of the lamb curry rather than the seasoning the meat beforehand or during cooking.
Warm welcoming staff. Nice ambience. Reasonable food prices. Very fresh authentic tasting food. Would definitely recommend and return ??
Amazing food and service. It was a really brilliant meal. Lovely decor and ambience. A shame their menu is incorrect and that 3 of their white wines were actually not available by the glass - but that's the only negative I could find.
Food was good but was disapointed that they did not stick to the 20% off bill that was offered with booking. Had to pay full price
Umami is a really lovely restaurant. The staff were so friendly and really attentive without being overbearing. I had the Indonesian curry and it was absolutely divine. Such rich flavours, a real spicy kick mellowed out by the sweetness from the ground almonds and baby corn. There was a fairly extensive tea menu that came with free refills (a very nice touch at £4.75 a teapot, makes it much kinder on the wallet!). We can recommend the white tea and the black tea and berry infusion.
Between the four of us, we shared two puddings. At £7.50 a pop they were by far the most overpriced thing on the menu but the coconut and mango salsa cake was truly yummy. The chocolate fondant and ice cream was well done but I always feel you can't go too far wrong with a dessert like that! The pudding sizes were a good size to finish off a meal with, not too large and brimming with flavour.
