Food was nice although not a great deal of choice from the menu other than burgers etc sold out of many choices.
Service was rushed and one waitress very abrupt
We have had Sunday Roast here twice and both times the lunch has been delicious - we go during the week for ham, egg and chips and the food is always freshly cooked and delicious - the staff are all so friendly and it has a nice atmosphere. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.
Although not the waiting staffs' fault we arrived at 7:45pm to find that half a dozen items were not available on the menu. Apparently they had been too busy and sold out then after sitting down we found even more items unavailable. It was easier for the waitress to tell what was left rather than what wasn't. I feel for a Saturday evening this boils down to extremely bad planning and foresight from the management. To add to this not one member of the management team came around to apologise and there was never any hint of good will in the shape of even a free cup of coffee. Really poor from what is normally a reasonably pleasant pub/restaurant.
The service was very slow, our table was booked at 6.30 and we had to ask where our starters were and then ask again where the mains were. The time for those two courses were over two hours! The waiter was very pleasant though.
Value for money
Knew what to expect, dined here many times, staff always very friendly but 'pushed' probably because it was quite busy (Wednesday night - other restaurants would love to be busy on a Wednesday evening)
Good atmosphere, staff friendly
Excellent standard of food, although a long wait to receive it. Serving staff were attentive and did their best.
Welcoming service over a busy lunch period; clearly a popular restaurant. Bar left unattended on occasions, but frustrating when off duty staff chatting across the bar and not doing anything to help. Looked a bit unprofessional.
Roast dinner was lovely and we all enjoyed our meal.
The newly refurbished restaurant looks lovely, clean and fresh. Our table was booked for 16.30 which meant we selected from the lunch menu. Having eaten here before we were looking forward to the 'big whale of a fish' I.e haddock in batter. Sadly this is no longer on either the lunch nor the dinner menu. We opted instead for the burger in brioche bun which was a good substitution. It was quiet at the time we were there but service and staff were great. Hopefully our past bad experiences have disapoeared and this restaurant will return to the good ol' days when it first opened. A lovely evening in lovely surroundings.
