This was supposed to be a lunch given by me to three dear friends, one of whom is diabetic, to celebrate my birthday. I advised Tylney Hall that one of my guests was diabetic at the time of booking. We booked a table for 1pm, arrived at 12.30pm in time for a pre-lunch drink, ordered our starters and mains and were called to our table just after 1pm. And there we sat until 2.20pm - it took over an hour for our starters to arrive. In the meantime my diabetic friend, who has to eat at set times, began to feel unwell and had to ask a waiter to bring a biscuit in order to bring up her sugar level. What is appalling is that AT NO TIME DID ANY OF THE WAITING STAFF WARN US THAT THERE WAS A DELAY OR GIVE US ANY EXPLANATION. Had they done so we could have fetched some sweets from the car so that my friend could take action before she became unwell. Only later were we told that they had a big party in and a shortage in the kitchen. We are reasonable people; had they told us they were in difficulties we would have understood. But to be left in the dark - and only offered a small bread roll after about 40 minutes - was disgraceful, especially as they knew they had a diabetic diner. They did give us a discount on our bill in addition to removal of the service charge which I refused to pay. We have always had good service at Tylney Hall in the past, but the staff need to know that if there are difficulties with a service, for heaven's sake tell the customers, don't leave them in the dark. This experience is my reason for saying "no" to the next question. I would certainly think twice before going there again.
Afternoon Tea in the lounge: lovely setting, attentive and friendly staff and super food.
delicious meal, relaxed atmosphere
Went for Afternoon Tea in celebration of a friend’s 90th birthday. Having been to TH on many occasions I had confidence in the welcome, excellent service in beautiful surroundings, it was a new experience for 3 of the party and was well enjoyed. The only disappointment was that it took an hour for the tea to be served...very unlike the normal service.
I treated my mum for Mother’s Day, we had a lovely time. The food was delicious and the service was good.
The staff were excellent and very accommodating, we had asked for a window seat and they ensured we got the best one.
No longer do a dessert buffet which used to be great. Beef plated up so no choice of well done or rare. Standard has dropped sharply
The afternoon tea looked amazing but unfortunately the taste was disappointing. The sandwiches were dry and bland and the cakes were of an acquired taste, grapefruit and lavender desserts which none of our party ate. Also an apple and elderflower cake which tasted of neither apple or elderflower. The scones were the best part.
I had afternoon tea here on 18th May and it was absolutely amazing! Every item of food we had was delicious particularly scones and the mini puddings. Would 100% recommend! And will come back again
The whole afternoon tea experience was great with excellent food and service in lovely surroundings.
