Delicious tasting menu

The Tudor Farmhouse Hotel offers an inspired menu led by the season's finest produce. Ingredients are freshly foraged from the hotel's expansive grounds and kitchen garden, while most of the remaining produce is sourced from within a 20-mile radius. Head chef, Rob Cox, was named South West Chef of the Year in October 2017. The cottage garden is open for al fresco dining during the summer months, and The Tudor Farmhouse also presents a signature afternoon tea.

Overall: disappointing. The location and setting was attractive. The food was average ie not special. The service was poor, slow and disorganised.

We had lunch at the Tudor Inn, Clearwell, last Sunday. It was our 2nd visit & we are looking forward to our next as everything was wonderful & most especially the cooking - faultless! Can’t comment on drinks as we had water.

Superb appetiser of celeriac soup with beef cheek and lovely bread. the main course of lamb was great, particularly the shoulder. My partner's starter of lamb ravioli was lovely but I feel the carrot starter was a bit expensive given the size and the ingredients. Pineapple desert was nice but the lime ice cream was more like a sorbet.

Three of us went for lunch last week, which we've been doing occasionally for a while. I probably should have read the lunch menu more carefully beforehand, as when we asked for something simple like an omelette or a sandwich, they said there had been changes, and lunch options were two courses for £25, three courses for £30 or a special tasting menu for £40. We were rather taken aback - my sister really only wanted a sandwich, and asked if that was possible, and very reluctantly a sandwich menu was brought. We others had a two-course menu - a small piece of delicious belly of pork, beautifully served with 'turnips' (a few small marbles) and 'scallops' (two tiny pieces) - don't remember the smoked apple puree, and there was a small amount of jus. I was disappointed at the lack of seasonal vegetables, which are so good at this time of year. For dessert we chose the very special rice pudding (in a small bowl) and the chocolate ganache (about 3 cm x 10 cm, delicious and beautifully decorated and served on a huge plate). We felt it was very expensive for what we were served - if you want a tiny portion of gourmet food, this is the place for you - the garden is delightful, and we enjoyed sitting in a quiet corner for a leisurely lunch and chat, but we won't be returning. (Apparently it's possible to get cakes and snacks for afternoon tea.)

We have been here many times and always enjoy the atmosphere, friendliness, service, and the food is excellent.
