The Palffy palace pertains to significant baroque palace compositions in Prague. The facade as well as the entire building is very unconventionally designed. The first floor is a mezzanine floor and the second floor is the main floor with a richly gilded stucco mirror hall, a restaurant, a private room, and a terrace.

The palace was created at the beginning of 18th century by the merge of two buildings built on separate parcels. From 1808 the entire palace was gradually reconstructed. In 1853, after the general restoration of the outer part and of the cobbles, the palace acquired the appearance it has now. The palace was named The Palffy Palace in 1881 when it was purchased by count Palffy of Erdod who, twenty years later, sold the palace to the state. From then the state used the premises as governor's archives and a mounted police station.

From the moment Czechoslovakia was formed until 1946 the palace served as archives for the Ministry of the Interior. In 1989 it fell to the Ministry of the Interior and in 1992 it was let to the Prague conservatory as a compensation for lost premises in then newly reconstructed Rudolfinum.
