This was my birthday treat, arrived in Port Isaac early and wandered around the port and into the fishmongers directly across from the restaurant, saw a whole freshly caught turbot. I joked to my wife that I would like to cook it and eat it there and then. We sat outside in the pub opposite and saw one of the chef's from Outlaws go to the fish monger and return to the restaurant with a bag of full of fresh fish. I returned to the fishmonger to find the turbot gone and joked about eating it in the restaurant. On entry to the restaurant the staff were wonderful, happy, friendly and knowledgeable. The menu was explained in detail but we decided to go for the chef's choice (We presumed he would know better than us what was the best choice) The waitress promised the main course would be special but told us it was a secret she would not reveal at time of ordering.The menu is based on small plates which were delicious, smoked mackerel mouse to start, followed by brill with a delicious pea and mint dressing. The monk fish tail melted in the mouth. Now finally the mystery dish - imagine our delight when the turbot was served!! - cooked beautifully, so fresh, tender and full flavour.
All followed by a lovely baked Alaska desert. Food complemented by a great wine list.
This is the most memorable meal we have ever had and although we thanked the wonderful staff we came into contact with on the day we would like to thank all of the kitchen staff too for the selection, skill and attention in preparing such wonderful dishes.
We cannot wait to return - 700 mile round trip but would commute every week if we could - or maybe we should just move closer.
