    Brilliant. Lovely welcoming staff. Great pre-Theatre menu choice. Absolutely delicious food. Good value. Osteria looks terrific and relaxing views over the Barbican Lake and Fountains.

    Great menu, good value, excellent location but oh, such slow service, especially when I had a show starting at 7.30. I was finally served my main course 20 minutes before showtime after two requests and had to gulp my food down. Such a shame.

    I dined here 12 months ago. That was good. This recent experience was very bad! Besides being FORCED to order off the pre theatre menu, the food from the kitchen was good. The service and the people working were very mechanical. No warmth. Just push the people through! We arrived before 6pm. Just after 6.30 we had completed our forst and main course. Menus presented for desert.Nobody bothered to EVEN ask if we wanted pudding for OVER 30 minutes. At 7.10 we requested to bill. These are not nice people working here.

    Where do I start? I had visited the restaurant before, and previous experiences were good, if not great. I had booked a table for 5 and asked for the à la carte menu when given the option to choose between that and the pre-theatre menu. Two of my guest arrived before me, and were taken to a table for 3. They explained that the booking was for 5, and were moved to a table for 5 before I arrived. We were given the pre-theatre menu, without being offered the à la carte which had been requested. We drank a bottle of prosecco while waiting for my remaining two guests. They were late, but there was still an hour and a half available to eat. The head waiter made a very good recommendation of white wine. Our orders were eventually taken, and the starters arrived after some delay, but were good. However, it proved virtually impossible to attract the attention of waiting staff to get more bread, water, etc. There was another, longer, delay before our main courses arrived, with the exception of mine. I tried to attract waling staff's attention, with little success: one waitress saw that there was nothing in front of me, looked horrified and rushed off - away from the kitchen. I eventually grabbed the head waiter (more than ten minutes had now passed), who delivered my seafood linguine. These had obviously been sitting under heating lights for all this time, and were therefore dried out and horribly overcooked. The waiter did offer to replace the dish, but since there were now fewer than 20 minutes until the performance began, there was little point. I ate the inedible. There was no time for coffee or dessert - we had to come back to enjoy these, but were made to pay for our first and main courses (admittedly, less the cost of my inedible main course) before we left. My guest enjoyed their food, and said it was good. However, my memory of the occasion was damaged irretrievably. Fawlty Towers in the flesh. I'm afraid I won't return.

    We arrived slightly early for our table, were seated promptly and well looked after by Thomas, who ensured our every need was meet. The food was delicious. Thank you to all staff at Osteria, we will return!

    Our pre concert diner was delicious . Menu suited all ages from 7 to 70 ! Main course took a bit long to come ... leaving the dessert rushed . I know it's a busy time but that happens every night I presume so you should be able to cope .
    Friendly helpful service ..... in spite of delay .

    A very relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant was quiet at lunchtime and we were not hurried. There was a good choice on the set menu and portion sizes were generous. Service was patchy. We seemed to have about three different servers. They did jitcwritecdien the orders then came back to check, out the wrong dishes in front of each person and side dishes cane far too late. Nice food, good location and good value. Also nice and interesting toilets!

    The restaurant only offered a pre-theatre menu as it was between the hours of 5 and 7, at which time they are apparently too busy to serve the entire menu. There were during the entire time we were there a maximum of 3 tables (much less than 10% of capacity) occupied with diners. I'm not suggesting it doesn't get busier on other days than the Tuesday we were there, but there was definitely no reason to restrict our choice that day. The food served was rather poor and very small portions. The gnocchi starter we had was very plain and boring, with a slightly acidic tomato sauce and gnocchi that seemed shop-bought in texture. The main courses were slightly better in quality although certainly not flawless (they wouldn't call it restaurant quality if you served that on Master Chef), and they really can't be had without an expensive side as there was hardly anything there.The restaurant itself seemed to have an issue with the heating as it was very hot inside and many of the windows were wide open to cool it down a bit. That shouldn't be necessary when it's 10 degrees or less outside.
