The quirky Mr P’s Curious Tavern offers a wide range of European specialities in a relaxed, informal and interesting setting. The location is an atmospheric (allegedly haunted) Grade II listed building, parts of which date back to the same era as The Shambles. Andrew Pern, AKA Mr P, Executive Chef/Director, is also the Chef/Owner of the Michelin-starred Star Inn at Harome.
There’s something for everyone on Mr P’s menu which encourages you to pick and mix from a selection of sharing platters including Spanish, and charcuterie and cheese. Small plates of gin and beetroot cured salmon or king scallops and pork belly are other options. Mains include dishes like corn-fed chicken breast, ravioli of smoked potato and egg yolk or pan-fired halibut.
For pudding there’s tempting affogato or rhubarb posset. Liquid refreshment at Mr P’s restaurant offers small, medium and large vessels of wine, craft ales, spirits and other beverages.
On Thursday evenings, Mr P’s acts as a showcase for local troubadours, adding live music to the mix. Located in the heart of the city, Mr P’s Curious Tavern is a 13-minute walk from York Rail Station.

Really nice restaurant quite quirky full of curios, we went to the rear of the premises, very good drinks menu, Food menu was small but the food was excellent, I had a Yorkshire Pudding for starter my wife had a rarebit both excellent followed by a double beefburger, I pride myself on having a good appetite but I could not finish it two half pound burgers with cheese on each in a brioche bun with a large portion of chips on the side, my wife had the fish cake which was served in a lobster "gravy" she said it was delicious main meal prices from about £14 - £28ish, couldn't manage dessert, we will definitely be going back.

Fantastic food, fantastic service even tho they both seemed a little stretched, due to someone quitting earlier in the week and 1 of them being not to well with a cold. They coped brilliantly. Everything I had was my favourite dish haha, the yorkie pud to start, nose to tail main and yorkie bar pud the wife had the wild mushroom and Madeira soup, very tasty and pheasant special. And parkin all equally tasty. As a chef for 16 years everything about the tavern appealed to me. And can't wait to come back. Reading this review back to myself , i sound like one of those of eccentric reviewers we all love to get. Owell. Will definitely be back.

Mr P's has a lovely relaxed atmosphere, I loved the decor and music and the food was exceptional. I booked for Sunday lunchtime and the service was brilliant despite them being short-staffed that day. Would recommend to friends and look forward to our next visit!

Food was reasonable but the whole evening was ruined by the very rude manageress who was very unhelpful with a simple request - so much so that she just walked off and ignored our table for the entire night. Also, when the complaint was about the whole table having to order from the set Christmas menu, it’s not then advisable to forget one of the starters! Very poor.

Great night and exceptional food. Table of 4 with the 6 course menu. Staff were great and made the whole experience very enjoyable. Service complimented the food. Dinning room is slightly quirky in this old building and helps create a relaxed fun meal. Will defiantly be going back again.
