    The food in this restaurant was outstanding. We had the chateubriand with sides of pees and bacon, roast potatoes with Gruyere cheese and French fries. By far the best chateubriand I have ever tasted. The sides were also out of this world. For desert we had sticky toffee soufflé and peanut butter and caramel cheesecake, again never tasted anything like either of these deserts. This restaurant is an absolute must and blows away any other restaurant in the centre of Edinburgh.
    My only point of criticism is that the bill came with around £30 of items we hadn’t had. This was promptly and easily resolved and did not detract from the overall experience.

    A lovely evening, although we were a little concerned about the lack of atmosphere when we arrived it soon filled up. The presentation of the food was all lovely but for taste I think the soft shell crabs were the winner of the dishes we had on the night; amazing! The service was good, although the concept behind the menu design was not clearly articulated to us. Lovely cocktails in the bar outside the restaurant with a great trad jazz trio playing away in the corner...

    Friday treat
    A very warm welcome by all the staff
    The fish & chips were excellent .........the tartare sauce is so light ,delicious .The treacle bread is so tasty & more - ish

    This is the second time we have visited. It is easily the best meal in Edinburgh.

    Underwhelming , too much Cheffy nonsense . Cullen Skimk awful . Gnocchi main course not hot . Haddock and chips good but presentation silly --- fish on top of Riss crossed chips on top of peas

    I was excited to dine at Mark Greenaway’s new restaurant having been a big fan of the food at his previous place. There was always just something missing however that just meant the experience fell under the standard of Michelin starred competition, which is clearly where Mark wants to be, so I was hopeful the change of setting would take things to to the next level.

    The food again was superb - the tempura crab starter was amazing, our steaks were cooked to perfection and the souffles were beautiful to finish with, however, again there were little details with other parts that just let it down.

    For example, my wife asked for a dry wine and the head waiter (a lovely fellow who was very attentive) said he didn’t know much about wine, and asked the barman who didn’t know either. He then offered us a taste, before realising they only came by the bottle so we couldn’t taste them, then came back a few minutes later saying we could. We ended up with a lovely bottle of wine but by luck rather than good judgement.

    We then asked another waiter what the chefs choice of trio of sharing desserts were this evening, to be told that this was where the chef chose three desserts for us to share! No details of what they actually were.

    Also, another little detail we picked up were the fork and knife were set the wrong way round at both our seats.

    All of the above is minor and didn’t detract from the overall experience which was very enjoyable, however, when you have someone who can produce top end food like Mark, you want the restaurant to fulfil its potential alongside the Kitchin and Martin Wishart. While the new setting is a further step on that journey, the service and the eye for detail also need to improve to get to the next level.

    Overall a little disappointed. Had been frequent diners at Mark Greenaway's previous restaurant so was hoping for much the same experience. Atmosphere a little lacking but was quiet so difficult to judge. Service was reasonable but did not have the warmth of the previous establishment. One of the diners has Coeliac Disease and was disappointed that had to make this known to each meme we of staff despite indicating in the booking. There was a lack of information regarding the gluten free options and with the starters it was not clear why some were not suitable and whether some could have been made suitable with some adjustments. Food overall was good (especially deserts - as always!) but seemed to be rather safe. This may be because we restricted to the lunch menu.
    Overall felt we missed Mark Greenaway’s! This is probably unfair as clearly Grazing is a different concept.
