The food was ok mashed potato was standout but nothing else I'd rush back for. Waitress was lovely however not enough staff at all. We waited ages to order, to receive drinks, to get food and forever for the bill. It wasn't her fault she was running around doing everything she could. 2 front of house staff refused to make eye contact or help in anyway at all. We got a bit frustrated waiting over 20 mins for the bill as we had a concert afterwards and needed to get out of there. Front of house staff #1 hid at the back of the restaurant until we had gone and #2 burrowed behind her lecturn hoping that she didn't have to deal with actual customers. It was my husbands birthday and although I wouldn't let slow service ruin a celebration it didnt give thr sort of experience I was hoping for when treating someone to a birthday meal. Would have been nice for one of them to at least acknowledge the staff shortage and perhaps offer an apology. Waitress said it's always like that and apologised profusely. More staff like her needed for sure!

I have to say overall the experience was good with the food being exceptional. I booked the table in advance of visiting my son in London and opted for the £25 3 course meal with a glass of presecco and tea or coffee for 3 of us. For me the best part of the meal was the parsnip soup it was amazing and a meal in itself. I had plaice for my main course with the others having steak and fries and a vegetarian macaroni cheese dish. The macaroni dish could have been warmer but apart from that the meals were very good. We all opted for a berry posset for dessert; these had homemade shortbread biscuits which were incredibly tasty. The service was ok, but the waiter was quite pushy about us ordering bottled water, bottles or glasses of wine, bread and extra sides all of which, of course, come at a price, although I suppose that is his job. This particular waiter also kept hovering over us during our meal desperate to remove any dirty dishes to the point of removing dinner plates before the whole party had finished. This is very basic waiter training surely ..... that you do not remove plates until everyone has finished eating. It wasn't just our table he did it with others too. This made the one person still eating feel very uncomfortable. As the restaurant became more busy after our main course this waiter seemed to abandon us completely and we had to attract someone's attention to order our dessert and then again for coffee and tea. We were then approached and politely told that our table was booked and they wanted us to leave as soon as possible. That's fine but it actually wasn't our fault we were still there! When the bill came we had been charged for tea and coffee and this had to be returned to be amended. The total bill came to around £118 for 3 of us. We were sat by the entrance and as people came in there was a very bad draught. All in all the food was very good which is the main thing ta the end of the day.

Food and service were fantastic, lovely relaxed atmosphere. Toilets leave a lot to be desired.

The parsnip soup was delicious and the extra side of cauliflower cheese was great could have had a whole plate of that . I had the berry posset which was so good . Fantastic food and a lovely setting. The service was quite slow - however, we were not charged for our bottle of prosecco as an apology, which a nice surprise!

Choose the set menu - plenty of choice within the menu & great value. The parsnip soup was a particular favourite together with the shredded leeks in the mash with the Cornish plaice.

Fairly good meal in a nice setting. We did a special offer which was £25 for three courses with a glass of prosecco and tea and coffee. it was good value. The cocktail we had to start was the highlight of the evening for me. My minute steak was tough and the sticky toffee pudding was off somehow but we were looked after very well.

Atmosphere on a Friday night was great, lively and upbeat. Sadly the service was very poor - waitress had no understanding of the menu or wine list and really struggled to take our order. The food was delayed for an unacceptably long time, but when it came it was delicious. The staff apologised but in a very unprofessional way, blaming the lack of staff available in a very busy restaurant. Simply the busyness of this restaurant and it's good reputation points to an unlucky experience for me. I would visit again, but my first visit was a big disappointment when there are so many other choices nearby that I know would have satisfied.

Seven of us got together for a pre-Chritsmas lunch, taking advantage of the three courses for £25 offer. The restaurant itself is bright and airy and the staff were just great. Everyone of us were really impressed with the food and have vowed to return. The portions are generous, and the flavours of all of the dishes were fresh and vibrant. Thanks Tom.
