Set within the heart of the Hampshire countryside, The White Lion Yateley champions well-loved British pub food from a time-honoured menu. The lengthy, anterior beer garden caters for al fresco dining and is framed by the pub’s salmon and cream exterior, while inside, white-wash wooden panelling, chunky oak tables and dainty, floral furnishing add to its rural appeal.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The White Lion menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while the ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The White Lion in Yateley is surrounded by a handful of lakes and rivers, making it the perfect place for budding anglers, while Sandhurst Rail Station is just a 4-minute drive away.

The Sunday roast was delicious and very satisfying and although we didn't need a 'pudding' we had one. The Merlot was good. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. A very nice experience - again.

My wife has eaten at the White Lion before with friends, and deemed it appropriate for our anniversary meal. First impressions are good, it has an old pub feel to the place, open plan but with lots of intimate nooks and crannies, the old fireplaces, and walls of cosy rooms left as original. My wife had vegetable soup starter and I opted for the salt beef hash topped with fried egg. Our appetites enliven in anticipation, we both approved. For main I was tempted by the pan fried rolled belly pork stuffed with cheddar, on top of lightly broken rather than smashed mash, mustard sauce, baked apple quarters, glazed veggies and black pudding. Boy, I was purring! My other half opted for the grilled gammon, chips, egg and pineapple sliced through including the skin. She was speechless throughout the Main, but in a good way. I sampled the chips that she couldn't manage, of course, perfectly soft within crisp. Light puds were the order of the day, so Barb went for coffee and mini pud (chocolate pot), which continued her reign of contented silence. Macho man here, though, decided wimping out was no option, so the "cookies and ice cream for grown ups" had my name written all over it and was brought to the table with some ceremony, 3 flavours of ice on a monolith of chewy dough ... What can I say? If I was a poet I would pen a sonnet, if I could carry a tune ... you get it, and I don't normally like puds all that much; I won't spoil it by describing the indescribable as I know you need to try it (tip: get 2 spoons). The service was good (our waitress a local legend who never takes notes or gets an order wrong), cracking real ale in its prime, delicious pub-grub food, wonderful ambiance and all in a prime mid-village location. We'll come again, and rebooking immediately after this review.

6 pm Sunday probably not best time to go after busy day. Staff not usual friendly welcoming manner. Hot chocolate ordered was left on counter to get cold and had to be redone. Food good apart from peas which were hard and weird. More proper veg would have been nice and sauce or gravy as chicken a little dry.
