Opulent and grand, The Russian Tea Room in New York offers elegant fine dining in sophisticated surroundings. Superb continental cuisine with Russian fare is the key focus at the exquisite Russian Tea Room.

The elegant interior features bold red leather banquettes and Art Deco design. Full of character, Russian Tea Room has been a cultural hub in New York for over 80 years, after the members of the Russian Imperial Ballet founded the restaurant in 1927.

Full of delicious classics, the menu includes signature dishes like beef stroganoff, poached lobster salad or chicken kiev with caramelized wild rice. High Tea at The Russian Tea Room includes sandwiches and blinis along with cupcakes, seasonal scones and petits fours. A fine selection of loose leaf teas will complement the high tea, with the optional accompaniment of champagne.

Close to New York's Carnegie Hall, the vibrant tradition of the Russian Tea Room legacy is still alive to this day.

The restaurant is very impressive, but the food is only okay considering the price.

I took my Bruce bd her husband there before going to Carnegie hall. They loved it they enjoyed the drinks and the meal was delicious and the worst problem was choosing with so many wonderful choices- service was great as was Carnegie!

A very expensive evening but worth every penny. The restaurant is as beautiful as ever as are the food and service. Our wait person Vladimir was very knowledgeable about both the drink and food menus. His service was impeccable. Background music included Piaf and Pavarotti which I loved. One can only listen to so much balalaika! Don't forget to check out the gift store and the displays of Faberge eggs made out of sugar.

The food was not fresh it was soggy & dry bread like it had been sitting a long time
Just not up to the standard of a good resturant

The best part of the tea was definitely the sandwiches. The variety of breads and filling was amazing. I think the cakes were the least liked by our group, but as Brits we don't enjoy the cakes from the U S. I did wonder if it was tradition not to serve cream with the scones? I have had afternoon tea in a few countries but we have always had cream with our scones.

I've always wanted to go to the Russian Tea Room. I had seen in some other reviews that the food wasn't that great, but thought I'd check it out myself. Sadly, those reviews were not exaggerated. I had probably the worst meal of my life here. As I am a vegetarian, I had the Vegetable Tarelka which was described as a "Grilled vegetable Napoleon with a daily vegetable pie." Yeah, no, not really. What they considered a Napoleon was a stack of big slices of balsamic grilled vegetables held upright with a wooden pick - most of which were inedible (especially the eggplant - nasty). The fact that I'm not a fan of balsamic grilled veggies didn't help. The "daily vegetable pie" could best be described as a hard vegetable omelet shaped like a muffin. Pretty awful - tasted like burnt eggs. My husband had the Pelmeni and something else which I can't recall. He said it wasn't that great - And definitely not worth the price that was charged for it. I love the way the place is decorated, but we quickly picked up on the fact that we were stuck in the "Tourist" section. We were told that tables in the section right by the door were the only ones available - despite the fact that I'd made a reservation several weeks in advance. Needless to say, while I am glad I finally got to go here, but was incredibly disappointed at how bad it was. Waiter was nice though.

The Russian Tea Room is beautiful. The service was great and we enjoyed our tea very much. We were celebrating my daughter's 7th birthday, and she and her two friends had so much fun and were in awe of their surroundings. I really appreciate that the staff was so accommodating and really made it fun for them. One of the waiters even took us upstairs afterwards so that we could see the glass bear and the Faberge egg tree. Great experience!
