Found nestled in the quaint village of Coton, 3 miles from Cambridge, The Plough seamlessly balances pub food and fine dining. The Plough in Coton is a charming cornerstone of the community offering summertime al fresco dining and a popular Sunday roast.
Warm haggis with roquette and tarragon, fresh apple and mustard sauce is a favourite starter, and there are regularly-changing specials for something one-off. Main courses at The Plough near Cambridge include pub favourites such as fish and chips, along with inventive options like fennel, cucumber and hazelnut salad with brioche croutons.
The desserts on The Plough menu comprise classic favourites, such as apple crumble with custard, and crème brulee with boozy prunes. A selection of light bites, including casual options such as pizza and sandwiches, is also available.
This historic building offsets original low ceilings and gnarled beams with contemporary embellishments. The Plough in Fen Ditton is full of character and a 15-minute drive from Cambridge.

Sea Bream main course was truly excellent. And on an extremely busy day our service could not be faulted.

This is the second time we visited The Plough. First time some months ago for a large party on a Sunday lunch time and we were so impressed and pleased with the overall experience that we booked again, but for only four people on a Saturday this time. Unfortunately we had to ask for menus, ask for more drinks to be brought to the table etc.. and after quite a long wait our food arrived, but we had to send two out of the four plates back because it was cold. Front of house was good, but the waiting staff not as slick as they should be. Food very nice though having said all the negative comments above. Would go again, but not in a hurry.

All staff were polite and welcoming on arrival. I was meeting a client for a business lunch, and it was a great choice. Nicely decorated, great service and the selection of food was vast! There were four of us and we all had different main courses, all were fresh, homemade and really tasty!

This was my second visit within three weeks, and on both occasions I was impressed with all aspects of the dining experience as were my dining party. The tables were all neatly laid and had white table cloths which makes a change from the bare wood which seems to be the norm in a lot of restaurants these days. I was a little disappointed that they had sold out of the chicken schnitzel which I had had on my previous visit, apparently the schnitzel is a regular on the specials and is always popular. The plaice served on the bone with crushed new potatoes and wild mushrooms was a worthy substitute.

Disappointingly slow service. Waited 30mins for starter then another 45mins before main. Staff were pleasant but rushed and this reflected in their interactions. Forgot to bring bread with soup and one roast served without the Y Pud!

Pleasant. We travelled an hour to meet with friends so probably won't be back. Service was a bit slow and I was unhappy at having to wait when bread, oil & balsamic ordered as a starter for five people failed to materialise even though hot starters were already on the table. It eventually came after prompting the waitress and we were told that they had to get a fresh loaf for us and it was frozen - really? On a Saturday night? I would have just preferred an apology.
Food was okay but the chef had some strange ideas about desserts; everything is deconstructed so the Eton mess comes with a huge dollop of cream, meringue crumbs, raspberries and sorbet. Not horrible but different. The Lime Cheesecake was delicious but my husband was disappointed because he was expecting a whole poached pear and got small squares of what he said tasted like pickled pear - he ate it all though!
