Created from 4 restored Georgian townhouses, The Merrion Hotel is Dublin’s premier 5-star dining venue. The hotel houses a number of exquisite bars and restaurants, and with 2 AA Rosettes to its name, the Cellar Restaurant is the jewel in the crown, specialising in modern Irish cuisine.

Executive chef Ed Cooney infuses the finest local ingredients into the creative, European-influenced recipes found on the Cellar Restaurant menu. Indulge in phenomenal favourites such as the hazelnut-crusted Ballinwillin roasted venison loin served with buttermilk carrot puree and pomme fondant, or the delicious Kilmore Quay grilled black sole, with garlic spinach and zesty beurre noisette.

The stunning ‘Art Tea’ at The Merrion Hotel in Dublin showcases an array of miniature sweet treats inspired by the work of J.B. Yeats, William Scott and more, served in the magnificent hotel drawing rooms. An extensive range of hand-picked wines are available from the 18th-century wine vault, making for an ideal accompaniment to the wonderful food on offer.

Situated in the fashionable shopping and entertainment hub of Dublin 2, the Cellar Restaurant at The Merrion Hotel is just a 9-minute walk from Pearse Train Station.

Not a great experience. Limited menu and food was mediocre. Service was hard to find at times. Would prefer selection of fresh fish/seafood. If fact, would have preferred a menu with many more ala cart selections and not a price-fixed menu. Loved absolutely everything else about the Merrion but the Cellar restaurant was the one exception. Would have preferred spa credit or another amenity like a general food and drink credit to fully enjoy the hotel.

I would not return for any occasion. The request for the removal of specific foods was not followed. When I spoke to the waitress she interrupted me, did not let me finish & preceded to serve what I asked her not to serve. The room was like grand central station with people from another function coming & going to a smoking area. Afternoon tea was ruined for me personally. My afternoon tea was given as complimentary but it was too little too late.

Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, the atmosphere was inviting and cosy. Staff were well versed and knowledgable when explaining the concept behind the afternoon tea desserts. I would highly recommend the Art afternoon tea. The addition of the desserts is a welcomed surprise. It's intriguing to see how the chef will re-create artworks through pastry etc.

The staff were absolutely wonderful. They had a friendly manner and when asked about menu items they gave a thorough description. We were recommended a cappuccino as the barista was said to be award winning and that's exactly what the coffee was. We had a lovely bottle of sauvignon blanc. The basil ice cream was unusual but it tasted lovely, a nice surprise. I especially enjoyed the bread before the meal. Overall we had a lovely experience and would definitely eat at the merrion again.

I went to afternoon tea on Wed 19th April. I had been to afternoon tea before and was bringing a god friend who loves this type of thing, as a treat. Previously everything was excellent so I was very excited. However, on this occasion I must comment on a couple of things. Firstly, the sandwiches. The edges were very dry and seemed like they had been left out uncovered for a few hours (I was annoyed that I didn't say anything at the time). The Brioche with egg sandwich was very soggy. Ours was the 2 pm slot so if we were the 4.30 pm slot I might have excused it but as we were the 2 pm and as this was the Merrion Hotel I expected better. I was there in January (for the 3 pm slot) and the sandwiches were so fresh and soft and gorgeous. The second thing was the service. There was a large table beside us, a family of perhaps 10 people and there were many waiters attending to them. However, I had to ask more than once for a few things, some hot water for the coffee my friend got, some more tea, a different one to the previous one - we were left a while waiting. Finally the other small disappointment was that the 3 art pieces chosen for the desserts design were the same as the ones in January... I would have expected that 4 months later that perhaps some new art pieces were selected for the desserts. Maybe they are rotated and I just picked the wrong week to go but again I would have expected a new set - although this is a small point I admit. Overall I was slightly disappointed as the first time I went was excellent so I am hoping my next visit will be back to the usual standard. Thank you.

Art afternoon tea was enjoyable, members of our party are coeliac and gluten free options were well provided for. Our server was very attentive. We were told that all coffees were included in the afternoon tea. Unfortunately this was not true as we were charged an additional amount for further coffees. This was very disappointing and a clear downside. Overall a nice experience but certainly other 5 star Dublin hotels rival if not surpass this afternoon tea.

Beautiful hotel and tearoom. Relaxing environment and the art collection is a very interesting array of different works.
The sweet cakes were delicious! And the ones inspired by artworks were fun to study as well as tasty.
Some of the sandwiches were not to our taste however ie. one with the tomato paste.
    Tea selection good.
