Very disappointing. None of the starters really appealed so we ended up with a sharing board of baked Camembert which was good but much too heavy as a starter. The main course was ok but nothing special.

Housed in an imposing Georgian building, the Foley in Claygate has been a village pub since the 1780s. Seasonal British dishes made from fresh, local produce are served against the backdrop of stylish but rustic décor.

Classic dishes on The Foley menu include steak, ale and smoked oyster pie with shortcrust pastry, and thyme and caramelised shallot pork sausages with whipped potato and mustard and port jus. Mediterranean influences also make an appearance, in dishes such as crab and chorizo risotto with baby spinach, and roast butternut, candy beetroot and goats cheese crostini salad. The dedicated kids’ menu features pub classics like fish and chips, alongside linguine and tomato sauce, and ice cream and cookie desserts.

The dessert menu at The Foley offers a board of local cheeses, as well as baked lemon and vanilla cheesecake with passion fruit coulis. Classic British pub snacks can be enjoyed in the cosy bar, alongside cask ales, world wines and coffees.

The Foley in Surrey is a 3-minute walk from Claygate Train Station.

Fantastic Food. Wonderful Attentive Staff. The lunch menu is different to the evening menu but we still managed to order what we wanted.

Sharing platter Camembert was lovely. Pork belly main delicious but fish in fish and chips was a little tasteless. Service was very good. Decor and ambiance very nice.

In truth, we were very disappointed. Your table waiting staff were friendly. The experience, however, fell very short of expectations.
We were celebrating my birthday. I asked to see the cocktail menu, imagining that in line with every other restaurant I visit, there would be a few seasonal cocktails to help us celebrate. I was told there was no such thing, and directed to the wine list, which, though extensive, wasn't very thrilling.

My friend asked for a J20 - a very common fruit drink in a pub. She was told the flavour she wanted wasn't available, but there was something very similar. When it came, it was a branded juice drink we had never heard of. It was watery and quite odd, smelling of peach but tasting of orange and mango. It seemed very cheap.

In all, I was really disappointed in the menu. You charge very high prices yet seem to offer nothing special to justify it. There are no olives to nibble on while you order, and no bread. The mains are very expensive, and then you charge extra for sides and vegetables. I had not been able to check the menu online as the link didn't work - if I had, I might not have booked in the first place.

My friend's sausages and mash had to be sent back as the mash was cold. When the food was returned, the mash was piping hot, but the plate itself was stone cold. sausages themselves were quite ordinary in taste, and it was difficult to imagine how the meal could justify an £11.50 cost. Apart from a few onion slices, there was nothing else on the plate.
I had the buffalo burger, which was lovely. My husband had the cheese burger, which again, he found very bland and ordinary.

We chose not to stay for desert, mainly because the desert menu seemed so unimaginative.

I had deliberately picked the Foley as we have eaten there in the past, and I love the décor, and the outside space. However, it will be a long time before I venture in for dinner again.

Chicken parmesan was lovely. No music so could concentrate on conversation. Friendly service.

We had Sunday lunch at The Foley and really enjoyed it. It was one of the better pub lunches we've had and the dining area was really lovely, the decor in the entire pub was very well thought out. The staff were pleasant and service was good. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. Overall was a very nice experience.

Staff were good and helpful, nice atmosphere and very accommodating. Food was nice. It wasn't very busy, expected to be busier as a bank holiday. But everything was nice.
