We had afternoon tea and the service was friendly and attentive, great 1920-30's type theme with background music to match, very relaxed atmosphere and lovely tea and cakes. What more could you ask for!

Upstairs in a former banana warehouse on Liverpool's famous Mathew Street, you will find Tea Parlour, an elegant English tearoom hidden inside the first floor of the View 2 Gallery. Home-made cakes and confectioneries take pride of place beside beautiful vintage china, crystal glasses and pressed white tablecloths.

But the real star is the tea. Fine, loose leaf tea elegantly presented in individual glass teapots along with a timer, the emphasis is on taste. From black, green, white, oolong and tisanes, there is an ever changing menu of teas to enjoy from Rare Tea Company and Liverpool's own Phom tea.

On weekends, guests at Tea Parlour can relax and enjoy live classical music from the resident pianist as they sit and enjoy the beautiful and elegant setting.

Tea Parlour offers an airs and graces haven away from the bustle of Liverpool One, and is just a 4-minute walk from Liverpool Station. The venue is not licensed, but guests are welcome to bring their own bottle of fizz. Corkage is just £2.50 for a 75 cl bottle between two guests.

A delicious afternoon tea, with a good selection of different teas to choose from. Sitting room atmosphere, with background music was welcoming. 1st floor location makes access difficult.

Wasn't sure what to expect but the atmosphere was absolutely fabulous. It reminded me of Raffles in Singapore (from what I have seen on the telly). There was c 40s music playing in the background and the food was absolutely beautiful. All made on site.

    Would recommend a visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea at the Tea Parlour in Liverpool. It was a present to me following a prolonged stay in hospital and major abdominal surgery. The restaurant was lovely. My only problem was the entrance to the restaurant, you have to climb a very steep flight of stairs and the first 4 stairs do not have a hand rail. This caused us a few problems as I was with my Mother, aged 82 and following my op we are both rather unsteady. It would be great if a hand rail could be fitted for other users as I am sure that many elderly people would really enjoy the experience. The overall experience was great and the food was lovely too. The staff could not have been friendlier; just the right level of attentiveness without being "gushy".

Brilliant venue, food was excellent. Service was lacking we found ourselves waiting for 20 mins before we got out tea, and people who arrived after us were served before us. Not completely satisfied with the service.

I had afternoon tea in April, it was so good I couldn't wait to try it again and recommended it to many people.
I took a friend on Thursday the 5th October thinking I would give her a special treat. I was so embarrassed.
We had to leave our coats on the back of our chairs, even though there is a cloakroom but nobody offered to take them for us.
We didn't like the water it was cucumber and something else, I asked could we have the water I had in April which was elderberry and strawberry, she went and enquired and we were told they had non left, then she returned and said they had found some, when it came it was just water with a strawberry floating in it !!!
Our tea was only warm, obviously hadn't been brewed with boiling water, we didn't know about the tea strainer so we had large tea leaves floating in it.
When the cakes arrived the scones were lovely and warm but rock hard on the outside, the rest of the cakes were alright nothing special, no comparison to the ones I had in April.
So all in all it was a big let down, I certainly won't be coming again and will not be recommending it to anyone.
    Certainly is not worth £20.
No comparison to my previous visit.
    Totally disappointed.

Service was perfect; we were given advice about the teas and as I am vegetarian the server liaised with the chef to ensure sandwiches were available to me other than those advertised. The ambience is absolutely charming! You're transported back to a time more familiar to your grandparents (if you too are a child of the '60's!). It's elegant shabby chic and everywhere you look there's something unusual and interesting to see from beautiful mirrors and flamboyant lighting to mosaic art and objet d'art. Back to the food- the sandwich fillings were much more inventive than the usual veggie offerings with my favourite being hummus, red pepper and feta cheese. The cakes were being baked on our arrival and so were beautifully fresh and when the assortment arrived at our table the scones were still warm. Special mention has to be made of the gorgeously moist Guinness cake for taste and the exquisitely put together crème patisserie tarts with fresh and elegantly cut fruit. We were not rushed but even with the extra time we still couldn't finish all the cakes! Unexpectedly our server offered to box up the remaining cakes for us to take home which was a very welcome offer. Lastly, although the Tea Parlour is not licenced you can bring your own prosecco for a corkage charge of £3.

Excellent experience. The venue was wonderful very traditional and brought a special air to the afternoon tea experience. The food was excellent they were very happy to accommodate any alternative dietary requirements. The service was excellent very friendly and attentive we felt very welcome. To add to the authenticity they require cash only to pay the bill (can be embarrassing if not aware). They also provide boxes to take home anything you can't finish as they are too good to leave :D

The tea was excellent, a lovely setting with very pleasant staff and good value; nothing too much trouble. Better than any tea I've had in London. Would definitely recommend
