från London Borough of Hackney
Brimming with vibrant African character, Shaka Zulu is an iconic restaurant, bar and club in Camden Town. Set over 2 magnificent floors, Shaka Zulu provides a glamorous tribal setting for authentic South African specialities.
Delicious offerings on the Shaka Zulu menu include homemade biltong and pickled fish, whilst there’s an adventurous range of game meats such as zebra and ostrich fillets, buffalo ribeye and springbok loin. Crocodile steak with harissa and lemongrass keeps company with traditional recipes like Cape Malay-spiced beef ‘bobotie' and tasty boerewors sausages with wilted spinach and sheba sauce.
The spectacular space of Shaka Zulu in London is decorated with ornately carved 60-foot murals, marble bars and a tranquil water garden. Its trendy Kings Club creates a lively post-meal buzz, serving innovative Zulu cocktails over an eye-catching zebra-print bar.
Live evenings at Shaka Zulu include exclusive performances from international artists like Mica Paris and Kid Creole and the Coconuts. Camden Town Tube Station is a 5-minute walk away.

Incredible interior and great food with terrific service! A pity that on weekdays there is no African dance show as this is a pretty expensive place to dine.

Very unique choice on menu. Had a 3 course meal, my partner & I decided to be VERY brave and try the game meat Crocodile & Zebra. The dish was tasty although I thought the Zebra portion size was small for the price of £30 and then an additional £5 for a side dish. Starter chicken wings, desert passion fruit cheesecake both also tasty. Friendly staff with a great atmosphere live singer who also took requests.

I had a lovely dining experience, the whole atmosphere was remarkable. They have beautiful art work all around to admire while you wait for your food with soft afrobeats music playing on the background. Amazing settings.
Our waitress delivered a lovely service with a smile, who turned out to have the same name as me! Extraordinary!
And the food and wine. . Delicious! Absolutely satisfying in every way and extremely filling. I give Shaka Zulu 10 out of 10! Definitely recommend ????

The interiors are jaw dropping however we thought the food will be the same; we found the menu was expensive but thought the experience & the traditional African dishes/ingredients (after trying the food with, as advertised, unusual meats/dishes) would have been worth it & we would have walked away amazed.
Unfortunately it was quite the opposite in all of the above aspects as apart from unusual steak meats(only three type), the only other "unusual" dish & meat was crocodile.
I ordered the meat stew which came with beef (cheaper to make I believe) & it nothing more than a stew! It came with "yellow rice with cardamons & sultanas" which tasted & looked just like basmati.
My friend had the veg option of this stew & again even worse as it was just an Italian minestrone - no African veg either in it!!
Our starter call something amusing "Elephant" something was no more than other country breads (Italian (Grissini), Indian (Naan) & an other stogie roll bread) & a "hot dip", not hot at all & quite pointless as a starter.
The music after a while became quite loud & trendy, definitely not African so the experience was totally gone by that point.
Our girl serving us was, apart from the interiors, the only thing that was fab! Great service though when the bill arrived we had no choice to pay an additional £2 for African education; quite rude to not advice this cost before the bill arrived in my opinion.
Summary: this is not a passionate rest in food but just a show off to the Rich & Famous! Never again as it is a total rip off!
If I go to a rest the food & service is the main importance; do not promise what you cannot give!
