Really nice fresh food and fantastic service

A unique Scandinavian experience, Seasons is a contemporary restaurant that creates bold, exciting dishes, often deconstructed to highlight the individual ingredients. The interior of blonde woods creates the feel of a woodland cabin, contrasting with dark furnishings and tableware.
Seasonal Scottish and Scandinavian ingredients are used at Seasons to prepare unique tasting menus. Simple starters include poached quail's egg on a nest of seaweed with chestnuts and cranberries, and delicate Jerusalem artichoke soup. Beautifully presented mains feature duck breast with pumpkin purée and scurvy grass, as well as nuggets of monkfish fillets in velouté.
Desserts at Seasons Edinburgh continue the Scandinavian experimentation, combining bold colours and flavours using ingredients ranging from lingonberries and cinnamon to hazelnut and pine. There is a concise wine list with vintages that can be expertly paired with any of the dishes.
A wonderful example of eclectic Scandinavian culinary twists, Seasons is a 9-minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley Rail Station.

We had no idea what to expect as there was no menu but right from the start it was a wonderful experience! A warm welcome and a glass of Prosecco, a check of the ingredient list in case we had allergies etc and we were off. We opted to have the have the 5 course Taster Menu and matched wines - a vey good choice it turned out to be. Each course was brought to the table by the chef who had made it, the wines complemented the dishes very well.

If the service was as good as the food then this restaurant would be in my top ten Edinburgh eating places. The food presentation was excellent, good range of flavours, tastes and textures. The service was adequate but nothing special; it seemed a little disjointed.

We went for lunch which consisted of a limited choice set menu of three starters. three mains and one dessert. I suggest that if you like food that is seasonal, fresh and has bags of flavour in every mouthfull then this is the place for you! My starter of smoked duck with roasted artichokes and sweet cicely with a red wine jus was truly delicious. The main of venison ragu in a light puff case surrounded by winter chanterelles was lovely. The dessert of tiny juicy elderberries with elderberry meringue, ice cream and apple curd and twirls was so refreshing. The waiter suggested a great Australian shiraz to go with the venison, and all the wines on the list are also available by the small or large glass which for me is a big plus. Nice ambience and we intend to return!

There is a limited menu of fresh seasonal food. Food and presentation of the highest quality, this was the best food I've had in a long time. Smoked duck starter was lovely. Then hake with cockles and sea vegetables in Japanese style broth was unusual and very tasty. My favourite though was the petit fours, white chocolate with sweet cicely and dark chocolate with rosemary, very yummy. This is a leisurely dining experience, not for those on the run. The decor is restrained scandi style. Though the interior is very modern, this is an old building and it was a bit chilly. Overall a lovely place with exceptional food.

As the restaurant was quiet when we arrived, we had a choice of tables. the decor and space between tables is good for comfort. We were there for the set lunch, so choice was not extensive, but we easily found something appealing. The quality of the food, service and time given between courses were all very good. The wine we chose was also good and reasonably priced. The whole meal was very enjoyable and I would certainly recommend the restaurant to others as the food is high quality and very good value. The only thing I would say is that we would have liked the room to be a bit warmer. There was a heater giving off plenty of warm air just beyond the main room, but most of the heat seemed to be directed into a passageway. Despite that, I would just put on another layer and still return for more of the lovely food.
We also appreciated the little petit fours which were served along with the coffee, something of a bonus in a set meal plan.

The reception, presentation, timing and quality of the food at Seasons were all top class when I dined there last week. The flavours & textures of the food were divine, beautifully blended and well judged on quantity. I'd have loved more of everything, but would have left feeling I'd overeaten. I've eaten at a lot of top quality restaurants in Edinburgh - Seasons now ranks among my top three for excellence & value.

We had a three course fixed lunch with matching wine which was very enjoyable.
My partner said she wished the main course had been a bigger portion as she still felt hungry afterwards but
I couldn't fault the meal. Lovely smoked duck starter.
Will have to come back and try dinner menu.
