Tunnelbanestationen Goodge Street ligger 6 minuters promenad bort.

The Mad Hatters afternoon tea was delightful with specially blended teas offered and attention to detail with the savoury and sweet bites - wonderful because of attention to detail of food preparation. Slightly surprised to find the tea served in a semi-open court yard with some heating and blankets! Blankets were needed where my friend and I sat so more of a warm day location!

The Mad Hatter's afternoon tea is absolutely amazing! Attention to arty detail to keep with the Alice and Wonderland theme was flawless and very creative. The staff were very friendly and made you feel so welcome and were very helpful too. The venue itself is also amazing, loving the decor throughout the lobby and entrance. Would recommend to everyone and me and my husband definitely would love to come back in the future.

I went 2 years ago and it was the best afternoon tea I'd ever had. However, went again 2 days ago expecting the same and it was shocking. So disappointed. The sandwiches, cakes, and teas had all changed and was no where near as nice. We left lots, just wasn't very appealing. Yet still was charged the same high prices. Not going back and won't be recommending to anyone. Also I wasn't happy the waitress was pouring tea all down my blazer without even realising, when clearing the table.

After reading the other reviews I considered cancelling my reservation but so pleased I went along to see for myself. From the moment we arrived the staff were very welcoming and seated us within 5 minutes. Once sat down we were served by a couple of very nice waitresses who explained the concept and again were very friendly. I agree with other reviews that the savoury food is scarce, but we were offered more sandwiches twice (which we declined) and yes the eclairs were very dry but the rest was fine. The sweet selection was lovely, macaroon stop watches and marshmallow mushrooms and again the waitress talked us through each one. We didn't manage to finish these so like most people we left with a box containing the remainder to take home. The different flavour teas were very nice too, we tried all 5! The waitress asked us at the beginning if we were there to celebrate and when we said yes my daughters 16th birthday she produced a slice of birthday cake on a slate plate with happy birthday piped on, a lovely gesture which made the experience for my daughter all the better. £48 per head plus the 15% added tip does seem a little expensive but this is central London and every seat was taken (mainly by adults) and they still managed to keep a very good level of service. So overall, I feel a great place to go for a special occasion and I am pleased I didn't listen to the negative reviews as my daughter loved it.

Such a disappointment! My mum took me here as a 21st birthday treat, as we both love a good afternoon tea, and I'm a fan of Alice in Wonderland. We got off to a bad start right from the moment we arrived, first with out table not being ready at out booked time, and secondly because they forgot we were waiting, and just left us sitting in the bar for nearly half an hour (they did give us a free glass of champagne to aplogise, but it's also worth noting we saw them do the exact same to several others). When we were finally seated, we had to ask to move as we were in a direct line of waiter-traffic, who, with their rushing around, were bouncing our table up and down like it was on a bouncey castle.
And now for the actual afternoon tea: the service was lacking, with information being babbled at us so quickly we couldn't catch it, and waiters would run off before we could query it. Orders were frequently mixed up, with us receiving other people's food, and having to call the waiter back as they'd already walked off. On the plus side, you could tell a lot of thought had gone into the original design of the menu, and the Cheshire Cat tea was delicious. However, possibly due to the volume of customers, the food was sorely disappointing. Much of it was bland, and a shocking number of cakes and biscuits were undercooked. Several pieces that were supposedly sweet were disgustingly salty and therefore inedible. I, at several points, had told them my specific allergies, but rather than catering to this (as you would expect a luxury dining experience like this to do) they simply gave me an allergen-free plate, meaning I missed out on several things that I could actually eat! Oh, and this was the really impressive thing: the banana cake was dry. How? I haven't a clue.
So, all in all, there were a few nice dishes (I enjoyed the little 'Drink Me' bottle!) but, for such a price we would expect a much higher standard. It was the most expensive tea I've ever had, and by far the worst.

Was very disappointed with the afternoon tea. Was very little savoury selection and the sweets were so sweet you could not taste anything else. Was a lot of Oreo biscuit crushed and made into other things. Also the services charge added on top of the bill made the Afternoon tea very expensive from £48 to £56. Would recommend to go to the Ritz for £52 and get a real Afternoon tea experience.

Had a really lovely afternoon. Afternoon tea looked and tasted fantastic and the staff friendly and helpful. We arrived a bit early but that wasn't a problem and was shown to our table in a lovely setting in the courtyard. Started with a lovely cocktail and then choices of tea, all in the mad hatters theme. Plates of sandwiches were delicious and also given extra at no added cost. The plate of cakes was fantastic with so much detail and loved the little plant pot ice cream at the end. Been to many places for afternoon tea and this one was the best by far. Only complaint was that it went to quickly. Well done Sanderson
