The Pentland Restaurant is very attractive and the staff were very attentive but sorry as with my other visits to eat I was not thrilled with the food. The presentation was very attractive and I enjoyed my salmon starter. The rhubarb and pistachio sweet was also very interesting and enjoyable. Both my main course the guinea fowl and my husbands the duck looked very interesting but the duck was over cooked and crispy and the flavour of the meat was a little lost with the seasoning and the gravy. I bit more vegetable content would have been welcome to balance the dishes.

Apparently the Dalmahoy were relaunching some of their products and introducing a Gentlemen's Afternoon Tea. Despite various emails in advance arranging the surprise Afternoon Tea for my Dad on Father's Day our booking info had not been passed on. Then there was confusion over which afternoon tea we were having and when we finally got the Gentlemen's Afternoon Tea it looked like someone had been to Gregg's. The service was rubbish and the food was less than mediocre. We didn't even get clotted cream with our scones. Don't waste your time or money!

We attended for afternoon tea. The price was reasonable for what we got. The China cups and overall presentation good. There was a wedding going on and our cakes etc arrived before our date time and before we had any tea. One of our group had cancelled but we wanted to take her a treat which we had to supply our own box for. Overall nice setting for a catch up and blether with scope to offer up more .... charging £8 more for a champagne tea which didn't really compare with similar in other establishments. Good for what we paid.

From a spectacular-sounding menu, that promised to deliver some great food, albeit at a hefty price tag, both my husband and I were highly disappointed.
We started with the sharing platter. The cooked meats were tasty, but the tapanade, hummus and olives could've been (and probably were) the cheapest supermarket own-brand. The bread they were served with was fried, greasy and cold.
My husband then had the pork belly and beans. Fatty, tasteless and lacking in any presentation. He didn't enjoy it. I ordered the halloumi dish. I couldn't finish it. Rubbery, cold halloumi; Tasteless pea-purée; overly sweet walnuts and beetroot puree; the sweetcorn fritters were the worst- laden with grease from being deep-fried. Frankly disgusting.
Dessert didn't improve matters. My husband had a deconstructed chocolate cheesecake. Although the presentation was nice, there was no taste to anything on the plate and the 'cheese' part was strangely rubbery. I had the rhubarb and pistachio dessert. Again, great presentation but barely edible. The rhubarb was hard, to the point I couldn't cut it. The pistachios were bright green and 'candied' into oblivion. The whole thing was swimming in sweet 'rhubarb water' and was served with some incredibly cheap-tasting ice cream.
We ordered from the children's menu for our 11 month old. She normally has what we're having but there was a kids eat free deal. We ordered her some melon to start, which was fine... you can't really go wrong with cutting up a melon. But it came smothered in something like blackberry jam. Sweet, sticky and ridiculous for a child! I ended up scraping and sucking all the pieces before handing them over.
We then ordered her 'char-grilled' sausage, chips and veg. The sausage was certainly not char-grilled. It was deep fried and again, tasted greasy. Even at 11 months old, she refused to eat any. She had a couple of greasy chips and refused any veg, (peas and carrots) as they were slimy with some sort of butter-not-butter.

Fantastic and accomodating staff. Very tasty food and we left after 3 courses very satisfied not to mention the beautiful views over looking the golf course! I would strongly recommend this dining experience.

Excellent food, poor service.

Very nice starters and main courses. Rhubarb pudding rather amateur and disappointing. Service on the whole good but the wine waiter did not ask us to taste the wine - rather insulting when he was making quite a thing of it at the next table.

The food was poor service only average. Atmosphere. Like eating in a zoo. There was s stag weekend in the far room but you could hear it all in the restaurant. Not a good experience. Even when I had left most of my food I didn't get asked if I had enjoyed it. Would not fine in here again. Unless changes are made. It's not particularly cheap so overall not good
