I'd spotted Ida the first time I visited a friend who'd moved in just down the road and thought it looked really cute - traditional, local, a little bit ramshackle. The menu looked appealing too - traditional Italian with an emphasis on the home-made. We booked a table for 7pm on a Monday night and the restaurant opened at exactly 7pm so we were first into the empty room. Candles were only lit on three tables and the only other light was from the open kitchen so it was very dark - not in a romantic way either, just in a can't-see-the-menu way. Quite a few dishes either weren't available or had items substituted; shame, as the rabbit pasta I'd been fancying was now chicken pasta. Food was good, and portions substantial, but it took rather a long time to come. Service was fine - a bit haphazard and not especially communicative but nothing to complain about. The bill - [$] for two courses each, one bottle of wine (a nice Primitivo), one coffee, one liqueur and service, felt steep. I'd go back, but only if I happen to be in the area, and on a busier night when hopefully there'll be a bit more atmosphere and more attention to service.
