From acclaimed restaurateur Phil Howard, Elystan Street Chelsea serves seasonal, ingredient-led, gimmick-free dishes, in a relaxed but refined setting. Rich British and European flavours are joined by an impressive wine selection, as well as creative cocktails and local beers.
The Elystan Street menu begins with the likes of roast calf’s sweetbread with truffled autumn slaw, tartare of aged beef with artichoke heart and truffle, and ravioli of langoustines with barbecue dressing. Amongst the flavour-packed mains, try breast of mallard with pumpkin and chestnuts, salt-baked white beetroot and celeriac with truffled hazelnut pesto, or the aged fillet and short rib of beef with creamed potato, bone marrow, wild mushroom and red wine.
Desserts at Elystan Street restaurant are just as inventive, and include roasted figs with goat’s milk ice cream, lemon and thyme fritters and olive oil, and smashed brownie with chocolate foam, hazelnut ice cream and vanilla Chantilly. The Elystan Street wine list covers an array of international wines, with rare bottles joined by champagnes, ports and sherries.

Wonderful, inventive food without being fussy. I had a red mullet ravioli to start which was delicious. I then had a cod dish that was delicate and well balanced in flavors. My husband had grilled asparagus, and then hake finishing with a fabulous lime tart. The service was relaxed and very friendly & welcoming. The decor is casual, if perhaps a little spare.

This was our second visit and it is always pleasing to enjoy the experience as much, if not more, second time around. We like the more "informal" style of the restaurant with expert, but friendly staff. The food is exceptional and quite clean and simple in design - very much the way we like to eat as I think we are somewhat bored of the whole itsy Michelin style. The wine list is good and plenty of variety, even from the lower price and a good selection by the glass. Our very kind waitress wasn't sure which of two whites my wife would prefer, so a taste of both was offered, before making the decision. I think the really good idea is to offer a fixed price lunch offering with lots of choice - that will, I am sure pay off. Certainly it looked like there were a lot of returning diners on the day we went. It deserves to be successful.

really great experience. Great dishes were the John Dory and the Langoustine and Crab cocktail - the lime tart was also great.
Biggest thing was the quality without being overly formal or pretentious.

A fan of Phil Howard since the early days of The Square, I finally got around to trying his new venture. Billed as fresh, seasonal and lighter fare, I guess two out of three ain't bad, but light is not the adjective I would use. Phil's press speaks of simple, no mutli-course tasting menus, and light cooking. Maybe we chose wrong, but everything, while perfectly prepared and featuring choice ingredients, was very rich. My mushroom ravioli was the size of a Cricket ball and packed as densely. Multiple rich reductions, foams, and caramelized/crispy bits meant I had to struggle to actually taste the pasta itself. the Ajo, while fresh and beautifully presented was cloying and over rich. I noticed asparagus on a neighbouring table, and it appeared to be completely bathed -- save the tips -- in sauce. Strozzapretti should be light and hand rolled -- with a clear notion of a tube shape. These were more like spatzle. Picked off the perfectly prepared Morels and left the rest, slathered as it was in an over oily pesto -- with barely a whiff of the garlic greens upon which it was based. Rib eye, not sure how it was cooked --sous vide + grill? -- was cut up and slathered in too many things to note. Morels, again fresh and seasonal, must have been poached in butter; If this is light fare I shudder to think what the Heart Attack special would be, no wait, I did try the crushed brownie pudding. It appeared true to its description, but so covered in sauce, no, SAUCES and cream, with an extra portion of cream left for me to enrich this even further, two of us could only eat a portion. At 200 for two (with only two glasses of wine), maybe they believe they need to deliver calories per pound value. Seemed full of businessmen and perhaps this hearty fare is appreciated. I will conclude that while great care and quality ingredients went into this meal, it was disappointing based on my expectations. For those who like this style, I'm sure it hits the spot.
