From acclaimed restaurateur Phil Howard, Elystan Street Chelsea serves seasonal, ingredient-led, gimmick-free dishes, in a relaxed but refined setting. Rich British and European flavours are joined by an impressive wine selection, as well as creative cocktails and local beers.

The Elystan Street menu begins with the likes of roast calf’s sweetbread with truffled autumn slaw, tartare of aged beef with artichoke heart and truffle, and ravioli of langoustines with barbecue dressing. Amongst the flavour-packed mains, try breast of mallard with pumpkin and chestnuts, salt-baked white beetroot and celeriac with truffled hazelnut pesto, or the aged fillet and short rib of beef with creamed potato, bone marrow, wild mushroom and red wine.

Desserts at Elystan Street restaurant are just as inventive, and include roasted figs with goat’s milk ice cream, lemon and thyme fritters and olive oil, and smashed brownie with chocolate foam, hazelnut ice cream and vanilla Chantilly. The Elystan Street wine list covers an array of international wines, with rare bottles joined by champagnes, ports and sherries.

Elystan Street London is an 8-minute walk from South Kensington Tube Station.

Truly an excellent meal, innovative combinations but with care and well paired flavors. The meal was the shining star here, and the house bread. Dessert was less impressive but still tastey

Excellent food and we also liked the decor. We were there for a Sunday evening and the restaurant was not busy

A great restaurant with lovely ' real' food. Interesting combinations and wonderful flavours. Impeccable service. Tucked away in a quiet street it feels like a neighbourhood restaurant but the food is definitely world class.

Simple, perfectly delivered! The focus on a set of starters and mains instead of a tasting menu is refreshing. The service from the moment we set foot into the restaurant to the time we finished was extremely attentive. Highly recommended for anyone looking for seriously good food in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Elystan St has an unassuming yet classy facade which continues into the modern casual dining space.

The lunch menu, whilst more expensive than its counterparts appeared well considered and balanced. To start, my wife chose the mussels, whilst I opted for the consommé. The rich, creamy mussel broth was perfectly offset by the seaweed buttered bread which accompanied it. The consommé was bizarrely presented in a glass with bacon cream topping it; akin to an Irish coffee. Whilst well flavoured, it's appearance prevented the prospect of enjoying the sight of a potentially clear broth; rather bemusing given the effort required to achieve clarification from game.

For main, my wife decided upon the brill. The presentation was dated but the dish worked well in terms of flavours. I had the oxtail, a rich and indulgent bowl, paired with creamy mash and earthy greens. I found this to be a very comforting dish, although somewhat greasy on the finish.

For desert we shared the brownie and the cheese. The brownie and hazelnut ice cream were lovely and rich. When presented with the cheese and told it was a selection of fine British cheeses we expected an explanation of the offerings. Until we asked, this was not forthcoming. The reply was far from informative; with the waitress only naming one of the selection and instead focusing on what French cheeses they were similar to. It was a nice selection all the same.

With no matched wine option, my wife asked for an Albariño which was as well priced as it was flavoured. I asked for a red recommendations to match my meal and the one I had complimented both dishes exceptionally well.

In summary, we quite enjoyed our visit to Elystan St without it matching our expectations. It is a neighbourhood bistro which will serve the locals well. Whilst the dinner options may be more refined, in terms of value, our experience was that it was poor with inflated prices which I assume relate to the restaurant's location.

My second visit. I took old friends. It was seamlessly smooth from arrival to departure and every aspect gave pleasure, above all, the superlative food. I wanted to eat almost everything on the menu. I will certainly be going back next time I visit London.

Very enjoyable occasion. I had visited the restaurant when it first opened and was very impressed by all aspects, the delicious food, nice ambience and professional service. My friends and I were suitably impressed again on this visit. The only thing that did bother me last time was the noise levels but it seems the noise reducing acoustic panels installed have done their job to a large extent. Thank you.

First impressions are of a very good looking dining room - lack of table cloths give a clue as to the intended informality of the restaurant but the service was friendly and very professional and the food was far from informal and of excellent quality. Our starters were the quail, which was a generous serving and the game consommé, which combined an innovative foam with the consommé, both of which were delicious. Our main course was oxtail. A rich and filling dish, ideal for a cold and snowy day.
Deserts were to the same standard. We were enjoying a leisurely lunch, so this was not an issue to us but I did note that the time between courses was a little extended.
As an old customer of The Square, I was delighted by my first experience of Philip Howard's new restaurant and would recommend it to anyone looking for a superior dining experience in Chelsea, although his reputation and this restaurant's quality will hopefully encourage custom from a larger catchment area than just the locals.
