Unusual flavours beautifuly presented. I was on my own and the staff made me feel welcome which was lovely. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and not at all pompous which made choosing the wines more fun.

Dreamt up using the world-class culinary skill of chef Pascal Aussignac, Club Gascon has held a Michelin star since 2002. Staying true to rich Gascon flavours and complex cooking techniques, dishes are robust and innovative, with a commitment made to freshness and authenticity. Club Gascon restaurant is set next to the world-famous Smithfield Market, with guests invited to dine on the al fresco terrace, or within the majestic conversion of the former Lyons tea house.

    Outstanding in every way, food, service, atmosphere all excellent. The food was imaginative, full of flavour, unusual and prepared and presented beautifully. I eat out a lot and this was the first time at Club Gascon, it certainly will not be the last. I cannot recommend highly enough.
    I had the duck egg to start, delicious, followed by a signature fish dish that appeared to have a different wonderful flavour every mouthful, followed by Millionaire dessert which was also great.

    We arrived in the restaurant and on first impression, the décor was a little passé. The staff were efficient with taking our coats and seating us. We had a delightful cocktail which was a part of the deal we had gone for. Having informed the restaurant in advance that I was coeliac, I was given gluten free bread, however, the butter we were given was to share with my gluten eating friend so cross-contamination is an issue. We had a pleasant amuse bouche, not quite sure what it was but it was nice nonetheless. We had both ordered snails to start as the other option was fois gras which we didn't feel was a good option for such a limited menu as it is against our ethics to eat it. The snail dish was nice enough, very unusual and I had never eaten anything like it before. We ordered loma for our main course with three different flavoured quinoa which was very nice indeed especially the crackling. Then for dessert, we had a rhubarb and ginger dessert, mine came without the gluten ginger pieces which I think left it a little lack lustre. Then we were given a chocolate board, however, nobody came to explain that there was gluten in the chocolate so I was disappointed to have to ask a passing waiter. The sommelier was very informative and extremely experienced and gave us a delightful inexpensive wine to drink which was organic and biodynamic and he spoke about the biodynamic process which was very informative. All in all, it was a nice enough meal, the service was decent but shame there were no 100% gluten free options on the menu and it was a shame that they failed on a few accounts to keep their customer safe.

    Overall it was a disappointing dining experience and hard to believe it has a michelin star. The food just wasn't very nice and the service was very slow. We did have the set menu 3 course for £35 and the a la carte may have been a much better option.
