We had a very enjoyable lunch. Great ambiance and attentive staff. The lamb fillet was excellent. The monk fish was good but not fully up to expectations. Everything else great.

    Great welcome from the moment we set foot in the restaurant. Table perfect for 4 of us. Cannot fault the dining experience - it remains consistently high. It was a birthday treat for one of my guests and the restaurant were happy to personalise the menu for him. How good is that? We had beef for main course and it was tender and pink and mouth meltingly delicious. What staff friendly and efficient. A must go to for great food.

    Had the celebration menu and matching wines. All dishes were great; the soup is always a highlight (odd thing to say but Brian's soups are actually something to get excited about) and the lamb for main course was wonderfully tender and full of juicy flavour. Matching wines were an interesting journey, ending with 3 reds. Wasn't sure about the grenache with the cheese course but it did work fairly well with the salty cheeses. The fortified Malbec was a radical idea with the chocolate brownie but worked really well.

    Any criticisms are very minor - the game terrine at the start had fantastic texture but was relatively bland in terms of flavour, and the service for top-ups of water later in the meal was a bit slower than at the start (maybe they quite reasonably thought I'd have had enough by then). And my personal preference would've been to see a sweet white wine towards the end of the meal. But these are matters of personal taste of minor niggles, and overall the food was amazing and the service professional yet friendly.

    Food was very good. Traditional fine dining using excellent produce.
    The restaurant was quiet on the evening of our visit and while I could not fault the service it was rather swift. Had we not lingered over our coffee we would have been finished in just over an hour. This was an evening out not a fast service meal before moving on somewhere else.

    Brian Maule's Chardon D'Or remains at the top of my list for simplicity (unpretentious) and quality of menu and service and with a pricing structure, both for food and wines, that in relation to the first attribute can only be described as very reasonable - in other words good value for money and a great dining experience overall. They appear to have maintained their high standard over many years.

    With a great reputation we were keen to revisit. I'd been a visitor in their early days and it wasn't really for me However our friends suggested it and I have to say nice restaurant with a nice ambience but for our party if four that's where it ended. The biggest issue is serviice with a full 20 mins from sitting down to us having to stop a passing waiter to ask for some drinks. I'd say the service looks like it's top drawer but the staff were just pretentious and inefficient. Several mistakes were made just one of which they keep the wine out of your sight but the. They forget to serve it and I mean literally until the meal was finished and plates cleared. The food was "ok" with my cod very tasty but over cooked. My wife enjoyed her sea bream but declared she wouldn't come back because of the pretentious aura portrayed by the waiting staff especially the seniors. My two friends who had been there many times struggled to find anything "interesting" on the menu and what they did have they felt was ordinary. Overall we felt unwelcome and just wouldn't ever consider going back.
