Warm, convivial, relaxed and elegant, Boulestin is inspired by legendary food writer and restaurateur, Xavier Marcel Boulestin, and uses many of its namesake’s original recipes. Offsetting the Parisian-style dining room, guests can bask outside in the beautiful courtyard.
Boasting all the hallmarks of French cuisine, the old-school Boulestin menu brings M. Boulestin’s passion back to the London restaurant scene. The classic dishes on the menu are from M. Boulestin’s pre-war cookbooks, including oeuf en gelée, soupe de poissons and jambon persillé. The 23-year-old head chef Elliot Spurdle is continuously inventing and developing the menu, with dishes such as braised beef cheek & pan-fried fillet with bone marrow, and squash purée. Other dishes include ballotine of chicken with truffle compote, and roast venison loin with apples & rosehip jus. Lighter dishes include tuna tartare, quinoa & root vegetable salad and fresh squid ink papardelle with Cornish crab, artichokes and chillies, whilst Sauternes custard with Agen prunes in Armagnac offers is amongst the irresistible desserts.
Paying homage to old-world French elegance, Boulestin has large, ornate windows, numerous mirrors and smooth whites and creams to aid the luxurious atmosphere. The private dining room accommodates larger parties, using chic green seating and vintage wooden panelling.
In the heart of historic St James’s, Boulestin is walkable from Buckingham Palace, and only 6 minutes' stroll from Green Park Tube Station.

Very nice location on St James and a buzzy atmosphere, though perhaps a little noisy for absolute comfort. The meal was very good value (a bookatable special deal with three courses and champagne) for £25. Perhaps because of this, it was competent but unexciting. The doughnuts for dessert were my favourite item and others liked the cod main course.

Boulestin is a lovely place to eat. The main course especially - Duck - was delicious. Excellent service. We both enjoyed Boulestin.

Had special meal of three courses plus glass of prosecco for £25. There were three choices of all courses. I chose a quinoa salad, followed by duck and finished with doughnuts. Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious. The atmosphere in the restaurant is wonderful, with attentive waiters who are always within reach but never intrusive.very easy to book the special deal.

Overall, a disappointing experience. I booked online (and received my Bookatable confirmation of reservation) yet in the morning the restaurant emailed me to confirm the table again, but an hour earlier than requested. I had to phone them to correct this. NOT a good start. The restaurant not very full. Mostly business people. We had the lunch deal and both chose artichoke soup (under-seasoned, but resolvable); duck confit (mine still had undissolved fat in it) on a pomme puree base with gravy. The pomme puree wasn't a good accompaniment for such a dish - too much added butter/fat. It also had a 'skin' on it when it arrived. There were no other vegetables with the dish. The desserts were creme brûlée or doughnuts with lemon curd or ice cream/sorbet. The 4 doughnuts (apparently very good) were served with a strawberry sauce instead of the lemon curd. We were not told this before ordering and the dish would not have been chosen if my wife had known. Which brings me to the service: Service is charged at 13.5%; I ordered our glasses of wine to accompany the main course (beware: all rather expensive); I had to ask for the waiters a further 2 times before they arrived, by which time I had finished 3/4 of my main course; when we came to order our desserts we were given the wrong menus and these were switched after a few minutes when they realised their error; when we complained about the dessert (the strawberry sauce), the waiter blamed the 'new waiter' for not telling us (a training or supervision issue?); there seemed to be sufficient waiting staff to deal with the half dozen occupied tables. I know I should have refused to pay the service charge, but I foolishly did, but I won't go back.

A thoroughly enjoyable pre Theatre diner with a good "deal" menu.

Excellent fixed price menu, great they do pots of wine as a bottle is too much and a glass is not enough, lovely ambience and great service.Only downside was 3.50 for a tepid espresso gone in half a sip, will return but do without the coffee

I was very impressed by Boulestin, a French restaurant in St. James, London. The food (a three course star deal at 25 GBP per head for three courses with a glass of prosecco) was excellent (artichoke soup, rissotto and creme brulee for me), the service just right and the decor just lovely (an idealised Grand Cafe). Overall the dinner and the experience were wonderful. I could not quite figure out how I have managed not to dine here before.
