We visited for my wife's birthday. We like to travel at this day, but this year we had to stay in Cambridge, so we decided to check out one of the "best" Michelin star restaurants in the city. Looking at the Michelin star we were hoping to indulge our foodie mood. Unfortunately, strange things start to happen from the very beginning of our arrival. We had to wait near the doors for about 2-3 minutes until the sommelier (great guy) noticed us and took our coats. Instead of passing us to "one of our best tables" as was promised to me in the letter from the restaurant, we were offered to sit at the bar without a bartender, so - "no". Then we were seated at a table near a large company of 7-8 people, who were talking quite loudly which made us unable to enjoy the romantic mood we were expecting for our evening. A bar menu was offered to us, but in the letter I mentioned that we wanted the tasting menu. It was a good choice to have a regular wine flight (good wine selections and pairings), otherwise I think we didn't even notice some courses, they were so lacklustre - just the wine. We liked the complementary dishes and one of the starters, but were absolutely not impressed with the main dishes and the deserts. I think the tube of caramel in the Battenberg desert was too thick and it sticks to your teeth as a result. The food is good, but quite heavy and fatty, just a slice of average beef with a lot of fat... it's not the taste we were looking for in such a place. A couple of words about service: "We will bring you a menu so you can see which dish is coming next" - the menu appeared at table during the middle of dinner. Empty wine glasses stayed at table more than needed and were collected only when the 3rd glasses arrived. At the end of evening I had to find someone who could bring us the bill, rather than sitting with a table-full of empty glasses and waiting to be noticed... I think this place is okay for business dinners, but not for a romantic evening.

Everything about our visit was wonderful, the warm welcome, the friendly super efficient staff, a lovely bottle of wine at a reasonable price but most of all the food. Everything including the amuse bouche was delicious. It's hard to pick a favourite but the Dingle Dell pork starter was outstanding as was both deserts.

Overall disappointing for the cost with the addition of a 12.5% service charge (which we had removed) was not worth it! Food not worth a star, service mediocre,and we were charged for two carafes of wine but in fact were served 2 glasses,not good.Front of house did not know the cheeses on the cheese trolleyWe.will not return.

Eel , pork , Pollock and Battenberg the best.
Would prefer some new world wines with named grape varieties and brief description on the "by the glass list".

Food was superb. Staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. Only issue was that the pauses between courses were just a little too long for my taste. Restaurant ambience not wonderful (one of our party really didn't like sitting in a booth).

The restaurant is a lovely space to dine in and views of the kitchen a special treat as well. The tables are sensibly spaced so that even when the restaurant is very busy you don't feel cramped. This is an often overlooked detail but it adds to the enjoyment of the experience.
The food is frequently sublime, usually exceptional and sometimes only very good. We do have a family joke about how often Battenburg appears in the dessert menu but that is a flippant matter.
Advice from the sommelier is consistently excellent which is just as well as much of the wine list is an unfamiliar stroll through unusual grape varieties and regions.
Overall this is a wonderful dining experience which we enjoy returning to time and again.

Decided to enjoy the taster menu and flight of wines for lunch with my wife and spent a lovely time enjoying the great flavours and wines which were very well matched. Service from staff was very professional and I have to say that the person in charge of the wines was very knowledgable and had time to talk about Bobby's gin with me.
We both really enjoyed the pollock and my favourite was the liver which was perfectly cooked.
The only disappointment was that the seat was ripped but I believe you are due a refurbishment soon.
Atmosphere was very quiet but it was a Wednesday lunch time and meant my wife and me were given complete attention.
